I bought the Home Patrol 1 and live in Denville NJ --I just want to listen to local emergency, fire, police etc. I did the upgrades. Ok I found the forced update--that worked. Are there any special changes I need to make to listen to trunked and repeater frequencies?

According to the Radio Reference database,

Denville NJ PD is using NXDN protocol for transmissions which can not be monitored with the Home Patrol 1 scanner.
