As they say, YMMV, but in my experience the 536 has excellent reception on most of it's frequency bandwidth and is comparable to the 996XT. The HP-1 is almost, but not as sensitive at my location, and I have three of them to compare with, so I suspect the 536 has a better noise rejection and shielding that the plastic case of the HP-1.
Could anyone tell me how the overall operation is of this unit please?
Can I expect better reception than on the HP-1 ??
Thanks all I appreciate your answering my questions.
I have 2 HP-1's, a BCD436 & 536. The HP-1 and 436/536 are very difficult to tell much difference. One thing I like about the 436/536 they give me more programming capabilities as well as all the functions from the HP-1. I have the Extreme set up on the HP-1's which does give you more capability. I guess bottom line, anything I can hear on the HP-1 is very comparable on the BCD's. I just wish Uniden would get the lead out and get the Siren App developed. That was the primary reason I bought the 536 in April and I still don't see light at the end of the tunnel for the APP.
Hope this helps, my wife took my HP-1's for her use as they are more user friendly.
I have installed my 536 in my car with the Austin Spectra antenna and the GPS. Travelled to Cape Cod, upstate New York, and a few other places. The 536 has performed flawlessly, and the GPS operation makes the scanner even more of a breeze to use while mobile. I was extremely happy with the 436 as well, eapecially upstate.
It's worth the money, believe me.
