Unfortunately, spam posts are simply going to happen occasionally. While our system does require email verification, when spam is posted by a human, there isn't much we can do to prevent it. Unlike some message board platforms, Fireboard does not have a provision for single user moderation. However, when spam occurs, here's what we do (and what we'd like you to do).
First, never, ever, respond to a spam post. Click the report spam link, but do not post your own reply to it (it just about doubles the work on our end, since now we have to not only delete the original spam, but your post, as well).
Before we delete a spam post, we take a couple of steps to stop at least that user from continuing their abuse:
1) We block the user's account. This requires that they create a new account in order to continue their spamacious activities.
2) We block the user's IP address. This requires that they actually use a different computer to access our site.
3) We then delete the original post (and any followup posts, of which there are hopefully none).
We do all of this as soon as an administrator becomes aware of the spam (which is not always immediate, but usually within a few hours).
These steps are generally effective in preventing repeat performances by the same person.
