I have just returned from a 2500 mile road trip using the Home Patrol and a Garmin GPS. There are somethings I really liked about the HP and somethings I think need fixing.

1. Using the HP with a GPS is great, but the extra cables needed to connect the GPS to the HP are a pain and using a serial cable is dated. There has got to be a better way.

2. Battery life in the HP was great, about 5 hours, but the battery gage is worthless. It goes from reading full to empty with no in between.

3. Having to take three 3 steps to avoid or lock out a channel does not work well when driving. The HP should have a dedicated lock out button on the main screen.

4. Users should be able to adjust the delay time on channels.

All and all I think the HP was good, but with some minor tweaks could be great.

I just put my HP in the car last weekend.
I also have the GPS puck from Bearcat Warehouse.
I have heard about the delay question and other
comments. I think after reading this blog over
the last 4-5 months, I am sure that Uniden is
taking it all in. Why wouldn't they? Getting
instant (or nearly) feedback from the recent
HP owners would be invaluable.
I haven't yet gotten very far with the unit
with GPS in the car. One thing I notice, is
that GPS sets the range to "0", and when I
take it out of the car, and fire it up immediately
next time, the range stays at "0", and I have to
reset it EVERY time to 20 miles where I like it
indoors. I purchased the unit for BOTH, so it
is also a pain. Maybe I should just set up a
"favorites" list, which I haven't done yet.

I've been wondering if I save my settings to Sentinel, and back to
the radio, if that would change on the GPS? I still have not done
anything with FAVORITES yet.

Nope - the range always goes to 0 miles when you use the GPS and it stay there till you change it.

You're right...I seem to have to set it after
using GPS every time.
