I live in North Arlington and know cops on the force and also in Lyndhurst. I asked why is it that I hear very little going on in town over the home patrol? The answer from both police departments is that most of the calls are sent out via the on-board computer and not transmitted over the air. I also hear very little from rutherford, nutley and belleville and I guess its the same reason. Kearny is encrypted. the only PD i hear quite a bit from in Newark. Kinda makes the HP useless for the most part IMHO
anyone care to illuminated me into another way I can enjoy this a little more or if you experience the same.

Short of riding in the back seat - no way :)

Seriously - you can not hear ANY encrypted comms, nor can you monitor MDT's at least not in any easily doable way.
