I have an HP-1 and a Garmin GPS-18 PC. The GPS connector fits but the HP-1 won't recognize the GPS on Auto Locate. What am I diong wrong? Yes, I am outside! Thanks, Corky

Is it the serial connection version? Or USB (if there is one)? If it is serial, do you have the null modem adapter? It crosses over the TX and RX lines from the GPS before it gets to the HP-1. You can find them at Radio Shack, Frys, on Amazon. Only a few bucks.

My HP-1 > null modem adapter > GPS18-PC works fine. I had to get a dual cigarette lighter adapter to power both the HP1 and GPS18-PC, but all is hidden in the center console of the Subaru.

Auto Locate does not use the GPS.

Once the GPS starts sending data to the HP-1, it will prompt you to use the data or not.

A null modem adapter just crosses over the TX and RX lines. e.g: The TX line from the GPS is sent to the RX line of the HP-1. Normally some sort modem would handle that, but since these are direct connect a null modem adapter converts one units output into the other units input. (Hopefully I have all the terminlogoy right).
