Hi,

I currently monitor the USVI on my "traditional" non home patrol scanners. Radio Reference has some frequencies (although not all) for the USVI. When I enter my zip code (00820 or 00851) I do not appear to be getting setup with USVI frequencies but instead I'm getting US Nationwide and Puerto Rico. Is there anything I can do to make this worth? FWIW I have a very extensive list of USVI frequencies that I use with my BCT-246XT and Freescan so if there is some way to import them or share them with the world's Home Patrol users I'd love to be of assistance.

You can create 1 or more favorites lists for your Home Patrol using the free Sentinel software, and add all of the frequencies you now have... just as you would any other scanner. You can then use your favorites lists in conjunction with the master database, or turn off the master database altogether and just use your favorites.

If you wanted to share them, you can export your favorites lists from the Sentinel software as .hpe files, and attach them to a post in a zip file here or on Radio Reference.

.

Thanks,

I actually updated my Sentinal software and see a lot of the frequencies I have are already in the database now! The only issue with the scanner is that it does not line up the zipcodes here in St. Croix to the Virgin Islands and instead wants to put me in Puerto Rico. 00820 and 00851 are both St. Croix Zip codes and should use the VI database not Puerto Rico.

Here's what I did:
1) In the Sentinal software favorite all the USVI territory frequencies to a favorite list and update the scanner radio.
2) On the scanner manually set my location based on GPS coordinates obtained through Google.
3) Save my location under the locations menu (Menu->Set Location->Save Location so that I can return to St. Croix despite the zipcode being wrong.
4) Set my range to full 30 mile range.
4) Use my favorites list only if I just want to monitor local. If I want to expand things out I can do so by choosing multiple lists and selecting full database and the St. Croix Favorites list I created in step 1.

Everything is working great now but it would be good to see a fix for the USVI zipcodes so they pickup that you are in the USVI and let you use those frequencies without having to create a favorites list. Maybe I'm still figuring things out, I did just get this today and I might be at fault but I suspect that it is an issue with cross referencing our zipcodes to the right location. If you guys need help doing this let me know and I'd be glad to assist.

This is off the top of my head - but either in sentinel is a ziplistus.txt that references zip to lat/lon. You could check and verify, if in error could notify Uniden.

May be duped in the radio also.

Edit - the 0820 zip looks to be Christiansted at 17.7440364,-64.7062205, the database has 118.315000 -64.818000 near Tortola.

I'd say it is off. In fact - EVERY zip code for the VI is the same.

00801 18.315000 -64.818000 VI
00802 18.315000 -64.818000 VI
00803 18.315000 -64.818000 VI
00804 18.315000 -64.818000 VI
00805 18.315000 -64.818000 VI
00820 18.315000 -64.818000 VI
00821 18.315000 -64.818000 VI
00822 18.315000 -64.818000 VI
00823 18.315000 -64.818000 VI
00824 18.315000 -64.818000 VI
00830 18.315000 -64.818000 VI
00831 18.315000 -64.818000 VI
00840 18.315000 -64.818000 VI
00841 18.315000 -64.818000 VI
00850 18.315000 -64.818000 VI
00851 18.315000 -64.818000 VI
