It would be wonderful if Uniden could come up with a way to allow the HomePatrol unit to monitor S.A.M.E. Weather Alert in the background while allowing other transmissions to be heard, then when and if a weather alert is issued for the selected area, then it should be made to supersede the regular transmissions during the alert broadcast or make it so it returns to normal scanning 3 minutes after the alert activation or cut in, on normal broadcasts.

To have a radio such as this and to have it STOP regular scanning capabilities when the user sets the unit to be alerted on weather is crazy.

Surely they can make it scan the alert behind the normal scanning until an alert is set off for the area.

Seems simple to do, not sure why they haven't done this yet in any of their radios.

In order for a SAME alert to be "caught", the scanner would have to check the weather frequency for about 250 mS minimum every 1 second. This would make actually monitoring other stuff impossible (you wouldn't get enough audio to be able to know what was being said).

So, actually doing that in a way that would be acceptable as a feature would require a 2nd dedicated receiver in the unit.

Sure they can.

All it would take is a second receiver in the unit dedicated to weather frequencies.

However, how many people are willing to pay the extra cost to add a second receiver just for weather?

I know I'm not when I can buy a dedicated weather receiver cheaply enough.

They sell cheap weather monitors for the $20 dollar range, why on earth would you pause a $500.00 scanner to wait for a thunderstorm????????? Seems like your not thinking the correct way when it comes to MONEY but the price of the scanner can be had for a short time on ebay for the $414 with free shipping if you act quick and then you shall have the very expensive weather monitor!!!!!!!!!
So other than that Mrs. Lincoln, How was the play?
