For the last couple of years I've been using the Austin Ferret antenna, from Austin Antennas. I was very pleased with it even before I bought the HP-1. Since putting the HP-1 on it, I've received and verified transmissions 100+ miles away. I'm receiving the dispatches clearly, but, on long distance transmissions, am often losing the responses from the cars (not surprising since they're mobile). Before buying the HP-1 and connecting it to the Austin Ferret, I had one of my 396XTs on it. The antenna was excellent with the 396XT as well, but the 396XT doesn't come close to the HP-1's front end. The antenna is mounted on our roof, about 15' up. They're not one of the lesser expensive antennas, but they're worth every bit of what one pays for it!

I use the Austin Ferret for a base and the Austen Spectra for mobile. I love them both! Been using them going on three years.

Just received the ST-2 but was received from universal radio missing the cable. Will have the cable tomorrow and am anxious to see the difference in reception.

Received the missing cable and missing hardware. The antenna was easy to mount and was up and running in about an hour. It is mounted about 20 feet above ground. My home sits about 1300 feet above sea level. It easily doubled my reception. The cable supplied is the RG 6 and is not very flexible.

Not verry flexible but lossy, I'd change the coax at some point but then I am picky using the minimum LMR400 for the lower loss. It might double what your hearing now!

Where can you buy LMR400 with BNC connectors? Also, how flexible is the cable?
